This is a delicate period of neurological and physiological growth.
Timing is everything.
It’s very important to present the right activities at the right time and to respect your child’s individual timetable. Rushing your child can compromise intelligence and long-term potential. We need to minimize anxiety for children, yet a lot of anxiety is created by worrying about whether they should be in pre-kindergaten, young kindergarten, kindergarten or maybe two years of kindergarten. That’s why we decided to call this simply the preprimary program. Your child may be in the program for two or three years.
Our preprimary program has been designed to foster readiness skills in a way that promotes complete sensory development.
During this period, your child needs to fully develop each of the sensory systems and make important connections between the tactile and the visual, as well as the auditory and visual systems. This foundation gives your child maximum opportunity for learning, yet it doesn’t occur by chance.
Regular screening is an essential feature of the program.
It enable us to chart your child’s sensory development, identify stages as they occur, and prescribe activities appropriate for each stage. We want to provide activities that preserve confidence as well as stimulate development. Parent conferences and parent education classes are part of the process.
The curriculum is hands-on and revolves around monthly themes.
Through learning centers and some large group activities, children discover beginning math concepts, the written word, storywriting from experience, listening, early reading from large print books, children’s literature, our culture, other cultures, art, music, nature and science. Field trips and special visitors complement the regular class activity. It’s exciting and fun!
